This year I bought my first ever MAC lipstick.. I know, why on earth did it take me so long! Since then I’ve quickly grown a collection from nudes to brights from matte to lustrefinishes. I thought I would share what shades I bought with swatches on my lips to show you how it looks against my skintone (Foundation MAC NC42 for reference).
On the left is Mystical which is limited edition from the Alluring Aquatic collection. Creamsheen. On the right we have Fan Fare. Creamsheen. Mystical is more of a brown nude where as Fan Fare is more of a pinky peach nude.
On the left I’m wearing Speak Louder. Creamsheen. And on the right Lustering. Lustre finish. Both look really similar I know but Speak Louder is more pigmented and a slightly lighter pink. Lustering is very glossy and is more like a tinted balm.
On the left I have one of my favourites Pink Pigeon. Matte Finish. On the right we have Im-passioned. Amplified finish. Pink Pigeon is my alternative for MAC’s famous Candy Yum Yum as that one is more neon and slightly lighter I just can’t pull it off. But Pink Pigeon is my perfect bright pink lipstick. Im-passioned if I’m being honest I don’t like all that much, its a very redy pink but I can’t make it work for me. Barely used!
So Chaud is my orange shade of choice! Matte. And on the right one of the all time favourites Ruby Woo. This is my go to red always. Retro Matte. So Chaud is my alternative to Morange which is an amazing colour by MAC but so neon I just can’t work with it. This shade for me is more wearable for my skin tone as it leans more towards a true red. Ruby Woo – my first buy and still so pleased with it. This is a real va va voom type of red and my favourite by far. This hasn’t failed me once! And stays put for absolutely ages!
Two Retro Matte finishes here! Left All Fired Up and on the right Flat out Fabulous (another one of my favs). I love these two shades so much. I find they are so flattering against my skin tone especially Flat Out Fabulous (for those of you wanting to try purple shades this is a good starting point). All Fired Up is just that a great pink and my go to pink for events!
And finally my brightest colour – Herione. Matte finish. I have had my eye on this one for ages just because of the colour. Not sure I can really pull this one off it is super purple! But I love the colour – perhaps a shade for halloween? Or I may try pat it on instead of straight application from the bullet to see if it is more wearable if toned down.
And that’s all of them for the time being! All the other shades I have my eye on are so similar to the ones I own I can’t justify buying them. But I am looking forward to the limited editions, love their packaging especially the Simpson range due to hit stores in September!
If you are around the same skin shade as me I would love to know what your favourite MAC lipsticks are!
Until next time…
